We do our best to be conscious of the environment in the churchyard, as it is very rich in biodiversity. We try to create a balance between keeping the churchyard orderly enough to enable access to graves, and providing habitat for wildlife. If there's a grave that is currently not in a regularly-mown area, which you would like access to, please let us know at stmaryswelshnewton@gmail.com and we will ensure that the area around it is mown.

We ask those tending graves to avoid artificial flowers, plastic and floral foam (oases) where possible, to take plastic wrappings away with you and only to put plant material into the compost bins.

We are bound by the Church of England churchyard regulations which have certain restrictions on headstones and memorials and what is inscribed on them. According to these rules, you may not place bird baths, shaped or coloured stones, lights or photographs on a grave. If you’re not sure what’s allowed, please do ask when you are making arrangements for burial.
