WHY DONATE TO ST MARY'S?
"Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." 2 Corinthians 9:7
What do you need money for?
We need funds to maintain this beautiful, ancient building and churchyard, to pay for heating, lighting and insurance and to meet the costs of providing hospitality. As soon as a new vicar is appointed, it will also go towards the vicar's salary. We currently need to raise just over £12,000 per year to cover all of the essential running costs, plus the cost of our services. Outdoor church, for example (see the video), costs about £30 per week (which covers breakfast and fuel for the firepit). This February we held a Vision Day where we talked about our hopes and challenges for St Mary's - you can read the full text of the talk that Revd Mark Melluish gave here.
Where does the money come from?
In common with other Anglican churches, St Mary's is maintained and run solely at the expense of our parishioners and donors. As a small parish of just 122 homes, it's a constant challenge to raise this amount of money, so all financial assistance is really appreciated.
Don't you get money from the Church of England?
Actually no - it's the other way around! Each church is expected to give more than £8,000 back to the Church of England every year - this is known as the parish share.
How much do you currently get from donations?
We currently receive about £10,000 in donations. To survive and thrive we need to raise an extra £80/week or £320/month. If eight people gave an extra £20 per month, that would cover our costs and allow us to keep the church running and meeting the needs of the community.
How can I donate?
The best way to donate is via the Parish Giving Scheme, which allows you to make a one-off or regular donation (you can give monthly, quarterly or annually). Regular giving, however small, enables us to plan ahead and know what we have available.
What your donation goes to
See below what your donation could pay for.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I GIVE?
That's completely up to you. We don't ask for a fixed amount from anyone - just whatever you feel you're able to afford. Every donation, however small, is hugely appreciated.
If you're able to commit to a regular donation, even a very small one, it lets us plan ahead, but again, that's entirely a matter for you.
WHAT IF I CAN'T AFFORD TO GIVE?
Financial giving is only one of the ways in which you can help us. The church community is always looking for new volunteers to help with its activities. If you would like to get involved please contact us at stmaryswelshnewton@gmail.com, or come along on a Sunday. We'd also love you to pray for St Mary's and its work and vision.
CAN YOU PRAY FOR ME?
Please send all prayer requests, marked 'confidential' if you prefer, to stmaryswelshnewton@gmail.com
Members of our prayer team will pray for you or those named in your request.
